“Detroit Of East Germany” Zwickau, the capital of the Zwickau District, is the fourth-largest city in Saxony, Germany, with a population of around 87,500, after Leipzig, Dresden, and Chemnitz. Zwickau is full of interesting squares, buildings, and monuments. The priests’ homes are some of the oldest intact residential ensembles in Central Europe; the council school library is the oldest public and scientific library in Saxony; and the Johannisbad is a magnificent example of Art Nouveau architecture. Zwickau is home to notable national landmarks, including the mediaeval Kornhaus, St. Catherine’s Church, which bears the European Heritage Label, and St. Mary’s Cathedral, in addition to its distinctive museums.
